WTHN Acupuncture studio
A fear of needles is by no means unreasonable on any account, but it might be the strongest deterrent for any newbies thinking about trying acupuncture. In New York, the recently opened acupuncture and wellness studio WTHN takes the fear out of this ancient practice by presenting it in a contemporary light. Although the needles are still there, WTHN’s airy Flatiron space is comprised of plenty of natural wood, carefully placed flourishes like colourful graphics and welcoming treatment cubicles that together create a calm, spa-like environment.
Its treatment menu is equally easy to navigate. Conceived by the space’s co-founder and chief healer Dr. Shari Auth, who possesses a doctorate in acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine and is a nationally board certified herbalist, WTHN’s treatment offering serves as a starting point to target some of the most common conditions. From preventative plans that target sore muscles, alleviate anxiety, boost immunity and counter fatigue, to more healing ones aimed at treating chronic pain, aiding digestion, tackling insomnia and supporting women’s health, the range of services is as approachable and straightforward as choosing a massage. There’s even a facial acupuncture plan that treats wrinkles, inflammation and collagen loss. From here, each plan can then be customized by Dr. Auth and her team, should a client have more specific conditions that need addressing. Cupping for pain and detoxification, and LED therapy for facial rejuvenation are both also offered as optional add-ons.
Each of WTHN’s palatable 45 minute sessions are further complemented by heated treatment tables for total comfort, sound therapy playlists created exclusively by the team and played on noise-cancelling headphones during your session for the ultimate in deep relaxation, as well as a wellness lounge where clients can slowly ease their way back into the real world while sipping tea, and a stylish vanity area where one can regroup, while sampling the studio’s curated collection of skincare products.
Our tip? Don’t leave without taking home one of the studio’s organic herb blends, which Dr. Auth has created from combining ancient practices and modern scientific research. The eight-strong collection includes all-in-one remedies that help with daily stress management, bloating and digestion, aid sleep, boost recovery after a late night or increase immunity when you’re feeling run down, just to name a few. Made into tablet form and packaged in attractive jars, these potent herbs are a far from what you may find in a dusty Chinese medicine hall or herbal apothecary.
