Posada – Tucson, Arizona
Bordering the west side of Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona, Posada serves as the perfect launchpad for nature and city adventuring alike. That is, if you ever want to leave its grounds. Prior to being overhauled by Sara and Rich Combs, the couple behind The Joshua Tree House, the building, which was formerly known as Saguaro Inn, had been vacant for 10 years. Its original wood beam ceilings and light-flooded layout remain, while freshly white washed walls, raw natural textures and handcrafted objects have been introduced to create a fresh Southwesten escape.
After entering the inn via a cactus-lined pathway, you’ll be greeted by an open and airy sunken living room. Anchored by a wood burning fireplace surrounded by hand woven rugs and pillow-topped couches, the space is outfitted with a movie screen, bar, record player and games for optimal entertaining. The fully-stocked kitchen boasts a similarly bright and spacious appeal and comes complete with a large seating area and it’s very own ceramics cabinet for guests to use (or muse at) as they please. While a chef in residency program is in the works, it should be noted that the city of Tucson is the only city in the United States classified as a UNESCO city of gastronomy. Seeing as it’s a short and scenic drive away and is also known for its smattering of indie shops, it’s worth popping into for more reasons than one.
Each of the inn’s five suites is a mini oasis in its own right. Complete with a cozy fireplace or two as well as panoramic windows framing Tucson’s surreal desertous landscape, they’re the perfect places to escape to after a day in the sun.
When it comes to outdoor activities, Posada is rich in options. Located a few minutes drive from numerous trailheads that will take you on breathtaking routes spidering through Saguaro National Park, it’s a bit of a hiker’s paradise. If a more relaxed getaway is what you’re after, a walk through the inn’s 40 acres of lush cacti gardens or a dip in its Rock Canyon Pool might be more your speed. At night, gather around the stone firepit, look up, and marvel at the glittering inky blanket of the Arizona sky.
