Somewhere on the fringe of Joshua Tree in the Californian desert, some 160 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, there is a place called Wonder Valley.
This is a fact. It is also where Jay and Alison Carroll call home. The couple are the founders of Wonder Valley, a purveyor of artisanal olive oil and fine objects. Fueled by Alison’s experience working with the Californian Olive Oil Council, Wonder Valley’s signature olive oil is a rich blend of Taggiasca, Misson, Barouni and Arbequina olives that have been harvested in Northern California. Made from young, hand-picked olives, the extra virgin olive oil is greener than most and packed with polyphenols. The duo recently added a face oil to its ranks – a lightweight, yet efficacious blend of jojoba, sweet almond, grapeseed, rosehip, seabuckthorn and calendula-infused Wonder Valley olive oil. Made for both men and women, the nourishing oil dries with a matte finish, making it perfect for both day and night wear.
The Carroll’s stylish vision comes together particularly well in their oil shop, which operates in a refurbished 1950s gas station on Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree. Stocked with goods like Carl Aubock objects, Turkish linen towels, a selection of Japanese teas and of course, bottles of its signature olive oils that stand on shelves running wall to wall, the exquisite space is a sincere embodiment of the brand’s simple yet refined sentiment.
