Crown Affair
Without the need to venture out in public or see other people these days, the deterioration of any semblance of a hair care routine is to be expected. Sure, all the extra time on our hands has made it easier to embrace things like hair masks and leave-in treatments, but when it comes to actually running a comb through one’s hair, can anyone be blamed for not being able to recall the last time they did so?
Basic grooming couldn’t get more indulgent than with the thoughtfully made wares of Crown Affair, a newly minted label focusing on hair care that launched in January. Making its debut with one brush, a pair of combs, a hair oil and a towel, the label’s succinct collection of hair care essentials blends together practical use with sensual craftsmanship.
Its signature hairbrush, a boar bristled beauty, is comprised of two types of bristles that help to distributes hair oils evenly along the length of one’s hair while also massaging the scalp. Not only does this make for healthier strands of hair, it also helps to ensure a more effective clean when you wash. Crown Affair’s founder Dianna Cohen, who started the company based on her own rituals surrounding hair care, emphasizes that hair brushing should be the cornerstone of everyone’s routine. Whether it’s brushing for five minutes at the beginning and/or end of the day for those with straight hair, or brushing curly hair before washing to loosen up any product build-up, the simple use of this tool easily has the power to transform hair.
Another versatile implement to consider is the label’s pair of combs – a wide-toothed specimen ideal for detangling both wet and dry strands on the daily, and a more conventional long-handled version, which offers a grip sturdy enough to be used in the shower. Rounded tips help to massage the scalp while always sloughing off dead skin and stimulating circulation to promote hair growth. Handmade in Switzerland from plant-based cellulose acetate, which happens to be completely biodegradable, the combs each come in a stylish horn or tortoiseshell-style finish for a universal appeal that’s designed to last.
Crown Affair’s less-is-more ethos is also exemplified in its hair oil, which is essentially a lightweight hair serum that defrizzes, adds shine and protects hair from heating elements. Formulated traditional Japanese Tsubaki seed oil, meadowfoam oil and a proprietary blend polymer that helps to deliver and lock the benefits of the ingredients into hair, the oil can be used on all hair textures. It has also created a waffle microfiber hair towel, which is specifically designed to blot water from your hair and cut down drying time. Uniquely shaped to wrap all of your hair and neatly secured with an elastic strap, this is the perfect substitute for toweling off with a heavy bath towel.
